FIRE BANS

Effective at Noon Sept. 1, 2010

Campfires will be permitted throughout the Coastal Fire Centre due to a decreased risk of wildfires.

Open fires are still prohibited throughout the Coastal Fire Centre area.

Although campfires, are now permitted within these areas, open fires of any other kind remain prohibited...including burning barrels.

The District of Port Hardy Open Burning and Smoke Control Bylaw 06-2010 has adopted the fire management controls of the Ministry of Forests and Range Coastal Fire Centre.  Therefore, all Provincial fire bans effective within the Coastal Fire Centre apply within the District of Port Hardy boundaries.

Anyone found in violation of this open fire ban may be issued a Municipal ticket for $100.

The District open burning fire ban will be in place until the coastal Fire Centre lifts their ban. For information on fire prohibitions, visit the Wildfire Management Branch website at www.bcwildfire.ca.

H1N1

In an effort to better provide the information and advice that British Columbians need during the anticipated  second wave of H1N1 expected this Fall, HealthLink BC has re-vamped its website to allow residents to find the most current and up-to-date H1N1-related news and information available. In addition, the new H1N1 Symptom Checker provides residents with an opportunity to evaluate their symptoms or concerns from home to determine if they should seek a higher level of care.
